AIR FRYER CHICKEN DRUMSTICKS

Air Frying Chicken drumsticks are the best way to make them. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, these flavorful chicken drumsticks make the perfect meat dish to go with your favorite sides!

Provided by Simply Air Fryer

Categories     Chicken

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 7

6 chicken drumsticks
2 teaspoons avocado oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Steps:

  • If the chicken drumsticks are wet, place the legs on a plate and pat them dry with a paper towel. If they don't have too much excess moisture, there is no need to dry them first.
  • Place the drumsticks in a medium-sized mixing bowl and add in the oil, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper (optional). Toss until the chicken drumsticks are evenly coated in the oil and spices.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Once heated to temperature, place the chicken drumsticks in the air fryer tray. They should be in a single layer on the tray to make sure that they cook evenly and air fry to a nice crisp. If your air fryer is too small to accommodate this amount of drumsticks, cook them in two batches.
  • Cook the chicken for a total of 20-22 minutes. Flip the drumsticks over after about 10 minutes. Since every air fryer is different (and the drumsticks might be slightly different sizes), your total cooking time may vary.
  • Once the chicken drumsticks are cooked through and crispy on the outside, remove them from the tray. Serve them with a side like rice, fried potatoes, or French fries.

Extra crispy air fried chicken drumsticks! Ultra crispy skin, juicy chicken. No breading needed!

Provided by Kristine Fretwell

Categories     Main

Time 55m

Yield 11 drumsticks

Number Of Ingredients 6

10-12 chicken drumsticks (bone-in, skin-on)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp smoked paprika
1-2 Tbsp baking powder

Steps:

  • Pat drumsticks with paper towel to remove some of the moisture.
  • Lay out the drumsticks to season them. I use a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • sprinkle the seasonings all over the chicken, flipping and doing both sides.
  • Rub the seasonings and baking powder very well into the chicken.
  • Let the seasoning sit on the chicken for 10-20 minutes. This is so the baking powder can absorb some of the moisture on the chicken and will help get the outside super crispy.
  • Pre-heat your air fryer. Best temp is 380-400 degrees.
  • Once chicken is ready to go in, lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or lightly brush with oil.
  • Arrange on a single layer as best you can. A slight overlap is ok. Lightly mist the chicken with cooking spray.
  • Cook the chicken for 35-40 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • When finished, the skin of the chicken should be very crispy.
  • Serve when hot out of the air fryer.

AIR FRYER FRIED CHICKEN

Air Fryer Fried Chicken image

Making fried chicken in an air fryer is a revelation. You can achieve a crispy crust and juicy interior without all the steps of deep-frying. A soak in seasoned buttermilk adds extra flavor-as little as 1 hour will make a difference, but overnight is even better. Because of the capacity of a standard air fryer, we cook the chicken in batches. You can rewarm the first batch in a 250-degree oven for 10 minutes if you'd like to serve it all hot at once.

Categories     main-dish

Time 3h15m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 cups buttermilk
6 garlic cloves, crushed and peeled
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
6 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs (about 2 pounds)
6 chicken drumsticks (about 2 pounds)
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Olive oil cooking spray

Steps:

  • Combine the buttermilk, garlic, 1 tablespoon salt and 2 teaspoons pepper in a large resealable plastic bag or container. Add the chicken pieces, seal and refrigerate at least 1 hour and up to overnight, turning the bag once or twice.
  • When you are ready to cook the chicken, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, 1 tablespoon salt and 1 teaspoon pepper in a shallow bowl or dish. Stir well with a fork to combine. Drizzle 2 to 3 tablespoons of the buttermilk mixture from the bag over the flour and toss well to create small lumps throughout.
  • Remove the chicken from the marinade. Spray the basket of a 3.5-quart air fryer with olive oil cooking spray and preheat to 360 degrees F.
  • Dredge 3 thighs and 3 drumsticks in the flour mixture, shaking off the excess. Place the pieces in the preheated air-fryer basket, skin-side up without touching. Spray the chicken generously with the cooking spray and air fry until the chicken is cooked through and the crust is crisp and deep golden, about 27 minutes. Check on the chicken halfway through to spray any spots that still look floury with more cooking spray and flip the drumsticks only.
  • When the chicken is done, remove it from the air fryer and season lightly with salt. Repeat the dredging and air-frying process with the remaining chicken. if you like, rewarm the first batch in an oven at 250 degrees F for 10 minutes before serving.

Tips:

  • Choose the right chicken drumsticks: Look for drumsticks that are about the same size so they cook evenly. You can also use chicken thighs or wings if you prefer.
  • Season the chicken well: This will help to add flavor and moisture to the chicken. You can use a variety of seasonings, such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, or chili powder.
  • Preheat your air fryer: This will help to ensure that the chicken cooks evenly. Most air fryers have a preheat setting, but you can also preheat the air fryer by cooking it empty for 2-3 minutes at the desired cooking temperature.
  • Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket: If you overcrowd the basket, the chicken will not cook evenly. Leave some space between the chicken pieces so that the air can circulate around them.
  • Cook the chicken until it is cooked through: The internal temperature of the chicken should be 165 degrees Fahrenheit when it is fully cooked. You can check the temperature with a meat thermometer.

Conclusion:

Air fryer chicken drumsticks are a delicious and easy-to-make meal. They are perfect for a weeknight dinner or a party snack. With just a few simple ingredients and a few minutes of cooking time, you can enjoy crispy, flavorful chicken drumsticks that the whole family will love. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give air fryer chicken drumsticks a try.
