2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 ⅓ cups buttermilk
½ cup butter, softened
3 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups beets, peeled and shredded
1 cup milk
5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
⅓ cup butter
½ cup shortening
