GARLIC BUTTER

Sometimes the basics are the best! I've used this simple recipe for years to make garlic bread, and any leftovers go great on barbequed steaks, pasta, rice or potatoes. You can use any butter or margarine you like. Also, fresh or minced garlic in a jar works well. Adjust the amount of garlic to your taste.

Yield Makes 100g

Number Of Ingredients 3

100g butter , softened
1 garlic clove , crushed
2 tsp finely chopped parsley (optional)

Steps:

  • Stir the butter, garlic and parsley, if using, together in a small bowl. Season with a little salt (only if using unsalted butter) and black pepper. If the butter is too cold to mix, warm the ingredients in a small pan until melted and combined, then leave to cool. Will keep for up to one week in the fridge.

Tips:

  • Use good quality butter. The better the butter, the better the garlic butter will taste. Look for unsalted butter so that you can control the amount of salt in the recipe.
  • Roast the garlic first. Roasting the garlic mellows its flavor and makes it more spreadable. You can roast garlic in the oven or on the stovetop.
  • Use fresh herbs. Fresh herbs, such as parsley, thyme, and rosemary, add a delicious flavor to garlic butter. If you don't have fresh herbs on hand, you can use dried herbs, but use half the amount.
  • Let the butter cool before using it. This will help it to hold its shape when you spread it.

Conclusion:

Garlic butter is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be used in a variety of dishes. It's perfect for spreading on bread or crackers, adding to pasta or rice, or using as a marinade for meat or fish. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make your own garlic butter at home in minutes. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy way to add flavor to your meal, reach for the garlic butter!
