Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use a variety of apples in your Betty. Try a mix of tart and sweet varieties, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn.
  • If you don't have any evaporated milk, you can use whole milk or half and half instead. Just be sure to adjust the amount of sugar you add, as evaporated milk is sweeter than regular milk.
  • To make your Betty even more decadent, try adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top.
  • Apple Betty can be served warm or cold. It's also a great make-ahead dish, so you can prepare it ahead of time and then bake it when you're ready to serve.
  • If you're short on time, you can use a pre-made pie crust instead of making your own. Just be sure to trim the edges of the crust so that it fits snugly in your baking dish.
