- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan. Sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Set aside.
- Combine the apples and the white sugar; set aside. In a large bowl, mix together the brown sugar, oil, eggs and vanilla. Stir in the apple mixture, then the flour mixture. Fold in the walnuts.
- Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool.

- In a large bowl, cream the butter and 1 cup sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Stir in apple and nuts. , Pour into a greased and floured 9x5-in. loaf pan. Combine cinnamon and remaining sugar; sprinkle over batter. Bake at 350° for 60-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. - Preheat the oven to 350°F In a small bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cardamom, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, beating until smooth.
