Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 strip steaks (each about 1 inch thick), room temperature
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
1 teaspoon unsalted butter
Simple Steak Sauce, optional

Steps:

  • Heat a large heavy-bottomed skillet (preferably cast iron) over high 5 minutes. Generously season steaks with salt and pepper. Add 1/2 teaspoon butter to pan, then immediately top with one steak. Repeat with remaining 1/2 teaspoon butter and steak. Cook without moving steaks until a golden brown crust forms, 3 to 4 minutes. Turn and cook 2 minutes more for rare, or 3 to 4 minutes more for medium-rare. Transfer to a cutting board and let rest 5 minutes. Slice steaks against the grain; serve with sauce, if desired.
  • Heat a 10- or 12-inch cast-iron skillet over high heat. Season the steaks liberally with salt and pepper. Seconds before adding a steak, drop 1/2 teaspoon of the butter into the pan and immediately top with the steak. Repeat with the remaining steak. Sear for 3 minutes without moving the steak (to form a crust). Turn and cook for 2 minutes for rare or 3 to 4 for medium rare. Remove the steaks from the pan and let them rest on a board or platter for a few minutes before serving.

QUICK COUNTRY-FRIED STEAK

Quick Country-Fried Steak image

That delicious old-country taste right at home. Always a big hit. Whip up some mashed potatoes and even some peas and carrots and you've got a whole meal ready to go! Amount of left-over mixture depends on how evenly and how thoroughly you coat each steak. Tweaking and experimenting will be required to nail down a better proportion ratio so that there is less mix left over.

⅔ cup milk
2 eggs
1 ½ cups crushed saltine crackers
¾ cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
¼ cup vegetable oil
6 (5 ounce) beef cube steaks
½ cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup minced onion
2 ¾ cups milk

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Beat 2/3 cup milk and eggs together in a bowl. Whisk crackers, 3/4 cup flour, and 1 teaspoon salt together in a shallow bowl.
  • Heat 1/4 cup vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Dip each steak into the milk-egg mixture; transfer to cracker mixture and press to coat evenly.

THE BEST CHICKEN FRIED STEAK

The Best Chicken Fried Steak image

I received this recipe from a co-worker about 5 years ago. This is by far the best chicken fried steak I've ever had. I've made this numerous times for my picky eater son and my southern-raised better half, as well as other family and friends. I get nothing but rave reviews each time.

Time 40m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 14

4 (1/2 pound) beef cube steaks
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon black pepper
¾ teaspoon salt
1 ½ cups buttermilk
1 egg
1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce (e.g. Tabasco™)
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 cups vegetable shortening for deep frying
¼ cup all-purpose flour
4 cups milk
kosher salt and ground black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Pound the steaks to about 1/4-inch thickness. Place 2 cups of flour in a shallow bowl. Stir together the baking powder, baking soda, pepper, and salt in a separate shallow bowl; stir in the buttermilk, egg, Tabasco Sauce, and garlic. Dredge each steak first in the flour, then in the batter, and again in the flour. Pat the flour onto the surface of each steak so they are completely coated with dry flour.
  • Heat the shortening in a deep cast-iron skillet to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Fry the steaks until evenly golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes per side. Place fried steaks on a plate with paper towels to drain. Drain the fat from the skillet, reserving 1/4 cup of the liquid and as much of the solid remnants as possible.
  • Return the skillet to medium-low heat with the reserved oil. Whisk the remaining flour into the oil. Scrape the bottom of the pan with a spatula to release solids into the gravy. Stir in the milk, raise the heat to medium, and bring the gravy to a simmer, cook until thick, 6 to 7 minutes. Season with kosher salt and pepper. Spoon the gravy over the steaks to serve.

1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425°F.

Tips:

  • To make the perfect fried steak, use a cut of beef that is at least 1 inch thick. This will ensure that the steak is cooked evenly and remains juicy.
  • Tenderize the steak before cooking to make it more tender. You can do this by pounding the steak with a meat mallet or by marinating it in a mixture of buttermilk and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Season the steak liberally with salt and pepper before cooking. This will help to enhance the flavor of the meat.
  • Use a well-seasoned cast iron skillet to cook the steak. This will help to create a nice crust on the outside of the steak while keeping the inside juicy.
  • Cook the steak over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the steak is cooked to your desired doneness.
  • Let the steak rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the steak, making it more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Bisquick fried steak is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a quick and easy weeknight meal. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a flavorful and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy dinner recipe, give Bisquick fried steak a try.
