BRANDY SLUSH

My parents used to play cards once a month on a Saturday night. In the summertime, when it was her turn to host, my mom would make this wonderful cool beverage as part of her buffet of snacks and goodies. A cool glass of Brandy Slush also often made family gatherings more tolerable... was it the coolness of the drink, or the brandy that did it? I'm not telling! (Time required to freeze beverage is not included in the time to make.)

Time 10m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 tea bags
2 cups boiling water
7 cups cold water
1/2 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups apricot brandy
1 (12 ounce) can frozen orange juice
1 (12 ounce) can frozen lemonade

  • In 2 cups boiling water, add tea bags; set aside.
  • In a large plastic container, combine 7 cups cold water, sugar, orange juice, lemonade and brandy.
  • Add tea and freeze.
  • Serve in a glass with any lemon-lime drink.
  • Add a maraschino cherry for garnish.

Tips:

  • Use ripe fruit: The riper the fruit, the sweeter and more flavorful your slush will be.
  • Freeze your fruit: Freezing the fruit before you make the slush will help it blend more easily and give your slush a smoother texture.
  • Use a high-powered blender: A high-powered blender will help you get a smooth, slushy texture. If you don't have a high-powered blender, you can use a regular blender, but you may need to blend the slush for a longer period of time.
  • Add ice: If you want a thicker slush, add some ice cubes to the blender along with the fruit and brandy.
  • Adjust the sweetness: If you find that your slush is too tart, you can add some sugar or honey to taste.
  • Serve immediately: Brandy slush is best served immediately after it is made. If you need to store it, you can put it in the freezer for up to 2 hours.
