Time 1h

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 9

6 eggs
6 slices bread, or more to taste
1 (12 ounce) can cherry pie filling
1 cup Greek yogurt
3 tablespoons butter, softened
3 tablespoons white sugar, or more as needed
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, or more as needed
2 tablespoons chopped almonds
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  • Whisk eggs in a bowl until smooth.
  • Line the bottom of the prepared dish with half of the bread. Bread can be sliced or torn to cover the bottom of the dish flat. Pour half of the eggs over and spread to the edges to saturate bread. Spread half of the pie filling over.
  • Line the dish with remaining bread and pour remaining eggs over to saturate; some may leak through below and that is okay. Cover with yogurt and spread evenly to seal the top. Pour remaining pie filling over and spread evenly.
  • Place butter, sugar, flour, almonds, and cinnamon into a bowl. Work the dry ingredients into the butter with a fork to create crumbs, adding more flour and sugar if needed to get the right consistency. Sprinkle crumb over the top of the cherry filling. Place the baking dish on a baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the center topping is bubbling, 35 to 40 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before cutting with a spatula to serve.

CHERRY FRENCH TOAST

Cherry French Toast image

Is there nothing better than French Toast for Sunday breakfast?? Slices of bread soaked in a mixture of beaten eggs with milk, cinnamon, and other spices and flavorings, then toasted in a frying pan, or on a griddle and served with butter, maple syrup, fruit, powdered sugar, etc. This has to be one of our favorite breakfast...

Provided by Grace Pulley

Categories     Other Breakfast

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 large eggs
1/2 c milk
1 tsp almond extract
1/2 c cherry all fruit spread or preserves
16 slice very thinly sliced firm-textured bread
1 Tbsp butter
fruit -flavored syrup or powdered sugar optional

Steps:

  • 1. In a shallow bowl, with a whisk, beat eggs, milk, and almond extract; set aside. Spread 1 tablespoon of fruit spread or preserves on each of 8 slices of bread; top each with remaining bread slices, pressing together lightly.
  • 2. Dip filled bread into the egg mixture, thoroughly coating both sides. In skillet or on griddle cook filled bread in hot butter over medium heat about 2 minutes preside or until golden brown. Add more butter if needed. Serve with fruit-flavored syrup or powdered sugar.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality bread. A good loaf of bread will make all the difference in your French toast. Look for a bread that is thick and sturdy, with a slightly chewy texture. Brioche, challah, and French bread are all good choices.
  • Make sure the eggs are well-beaten. This will help the egg mixture to evenly coat the bread and prevent it from sticking to the pan.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan. Cook the French toast in batches if necessary, so that each piece has plenty of room to cook evenly.
  • Cook the French toast over medium heat. This will help to prevent the bread from burning and allow it to cook through evenly.
  • Flip the French toast only once. Flipping it too often will break the bread and make it difficult to cook evenly.
  • Serve the French toast immediately. French toast is best enjoyed when it is hot and fresh out of the pan.

Conclusion:

Cherry French toast is a delicious and easy-to-make breakfast or brunch dish. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a dish that is sure to please everyone at the table. So next time you're looking for a special breakfast treat, give cherry French toast a try. You won't be disappointed!
