Tips:

  • To achieve the perfect streusel topping, ensure the butter is cold when combining it with the flour and sugar. This prevents the butter from melting too quickly and allows the mixture to retain its crumbly texture. Aim for a pea-sized consistency for the butter.
  • For a glossy appearance and a chewy texture, brush the top of the streusel squares with melted butter before baking. This also helps to enhance the flavor and create a golden brown crust.
  • Fresh raspberries are recommended for optimal flavor and texture in this recipe. If using frozen raspberries, thaw them completely before mixing them with the sugar. This helps to prevent the filling from becoming too watery.
  • To obtain evenly sliced streusel squares, chill the pan for at least 30 minutes before cutting. This helps the squares set properly and prevents them from crumbling.
  • Store the streusel squares in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, place them in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze them for up to 3 months.
