GERRY'S MARGARITA

Gerry's Margarita image

The perfect margarita made with all fresh ingredients! I love margaritas. Let me rephrase that, I love good margaritas. This recipe took me about 6 months to perfect, and 5 years to share. I promise once you taste the freshness and balance of this recipe, you'll not only impress yourself, but your friends too. This recipe is consistent, and will come out the same exact way every time. Here are some dos and don'ts to make sure it comes out my way, Gerry's way. Use 2 heaping tablespoons white sugar. The most common mistake is people don't use enough white sugar because they think its too much. The drink will be tart. Don't worry most of the sugar stays in the shaker. Let the drink rest after shaking. That little bit of water from the ice melting helps the balance.

SMOKY ORANGE MARGARITA

Smoky Orange Margarita image

Provided by Valerie Bertinelli

Categories     beverage

Time 45m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup sugar
1 cup fresh lime juice
1 cup orange liqueur
1 cup mezcal
1/2 cup fresh orange juice
1 clementine, cut into wheels
Margarita salt, for rims

Steps:

  • Combine the sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepot. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, and cook until slightly thickened, about 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool completely. (Makes about 1 cup.)
  • To a large pitcher, add the lime juice, orange liqueur, mezcal, orange juice and 1/4 cup simple syrup. Stir to combine. Taste and add more simple syrup if desired.
  • Moisten the rim of the 4 to 6 rocks glasses with a clementine wheel and then dip the rims in margarita salt. Add ice to the glasses (not the pitcher) and pour over the margarita mixture.
  • Garnish each drink with a clementine wheel, and serve.

Tips:

  • Use fresh oranges for the best flavor. You can use any type of orange, but navel oranges are a good choice because they are sweet and juicy.
  • Zest the oranges before you juice them. This will release the aromatic oils in the peel and give your margarita a more intense orange flavor.
  • Use a good quality tequila. A reposado or añejo tequila will give your margarita a smoother, more complex flavor than a blanco tequila.
  • Don't skimp on the Cointreau. This orange liqueur is essential for giving your margarita its signature flavor.
  • Use fresh lime juice. This will add a tartness that will balance out the sweetness of the orange juice and Cointreau.
  • Salt the rim of your glass before you fill it with the margarita. This will add a salty flavor that will complement the sweetness and tartness of the margarita.
  • Garnish your margarita with an orange slice or a lime wedge. This will add a pop of color and flavor to your drink.

Conclusion:

Chevy's Ultimate Orange Margarita is a delicious and refreshing cocktail that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. Whether you like your margaritas sweet, tart, or somewhere in between, this recipe is sure to please.
