Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of venison: For stewing, choose a cut of venison that is tough and flavorful, such as the shank, shoulder, or neck. These cuts will become tender and succulent when cooked slowly in a stew.
  • Brown the venison before stewing: Browning the venison before adding it to the stew will help to develop its flavor and give it a nice color. You can brown the venison in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: Stews are a great way to use up leftover vegetables. Some good vegetables to add to a venison stew include carrots, celery, onions, potatoes, and turnips.
  • Choose the right liquid: The liquid you use for your stew will help to determine its flavor. Some good options include water, beef broth, chicken broth, or red wine.
  • Season the stew well: Be sure to season the stew with salt, pepper, and other herbs and spices to taste. Some good options include garlic, thyme, rosemary, and bay leaves.
  • Cook the stew slowly: Stews are meant to be cooked slowly and gently. This will help to tenderize the venison and develop the flavors of the stew.
  • Serve the stew with crusty bread or biscuits: Stews are typically served with a side of crusty bread or biscuits. This will help to soak up the delicious sauce.

Conclusion:

Venison stew is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is also a great way to use up leftover venison. By following the tips above, you can make a delicious venison stew that your family and friends will love.
