Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: For this recipe, chuck roast or round steak are good options. They are both affordable and flavorful cuts of meat that will become tender when cooked slowly.
  • Brown the beef before cooking: Browning the beef adds flavor and color to the dish. Be sure to brown the beef in a hot pan so that it gets a nice sear.
  • Use a good quality beef broth: The beef broth is an important part of the flavor of this dish, so be sure to use a good quality broth. You can use store-bought broth or make your own.
  • Simmer the beef until it is tender: The beef should be cooked until it is fall-apart tender. This will take about 1-2 hours, depending on the cut of beef you are using.
  • Add the onions and garlic towards the end of cooking: The onions and garlic should be added towards the end of cooking so that they don't overcook and become mushy.
