BRAN CAKE

Categories     Low Cholesterol

Time 1h

Yield 1 cake

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup wheat bran
1 cup sultana
1/2 cup sugar (white or brown)
1 cup milk, skimmed
1 cup self-raising flour

Steps:

  • Soak the bran, sugar, milk and fruit together for at least 2 hours. Add flour and pour into a loaf tin.
  • Bake at 180C/350F/Gas 4 for 1 - 1 1/2 hours.
  • Serve in slices. Dieters may consume an occasional slice as a treat!

Tips:

  • Use ripe dates:Softer dates are easier to blend and will result in a smoother batter.
  • Soak your dates:Soaking the dates in hot water for 10-15 minutes will soften them and make them easier to blend.
  • Use a food processor or high-powered blender:This will help to create a smooth batter. If you don't have a food processor or high-powered blender, you can use a regular blender, but you may need to blend the batter for longer.
  • Don't overmix the batter:Overmixing the batter can make the cake tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Use a loaf pan that is at least 9x5 inches:This will ensure that the cake is not too thick and cooks evenly.
  • Bake the cake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45-50 minutes:The cake is done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting:This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.

Conclusion:

Date bran cake is a delicious and healthy snack or dessert. It is made with simple ingredients and is easy to make. The cake is moist and flavorful, and the dates add a natural sweetness. This cake is also a good source of fiber and nutrients. So next time you're looking for a healthy and satisfying snack, try making a date bran cake.
