¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil, or more as needed

Tips:

  • Use fresh basil. Fresh basil has a much more intense flavor than dried basil, so it's worth the extra effort to find it. If you can't find fresh basil, you can use 1/2 cup of dried basil, but the flavor will be less intense.
  • Use a food processor or blender. A food processor or blender will make quick work of the pesto. If you don't have a food processor or blender, you can chop the ingredients by hand, but it will take longer.
  • Don't over-process the pesto. You want the pesto to be chunky, not smooth. If you over-process it, it will lose its texture and flavor.
  • Taste the pesto and adjust the seasonings as needed. The pesto should be flavorful, but not too salty or too oily. Add more salt, pepper, or olive oil to taste.
  • Use the pesto right away or store it for later. Pesto can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You can also freeze the pesto for up to 3 months.

Conclusion:

Basil pesto is a delicious and versatile sauce that can be used in a variety of dishes. It's great on pasta, pizza, sandwiches, and salads. It can also be used as a marinade for chicken, fish, or vegetables. With a few simple tips, you can make a delicious basil pesto at home that will impress your friends and family.
