Time 1h15m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

6 baking hens
1/2 cup melted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1 whole onion, chopped fine
1 tablespoon crushed parsley
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients except hens.
  • Clean & cut hens in half.
  • Pour sauce over hens & bake 1 hour at 350°F.

Tips:

  • Choose the right Cornish hens: Look for hens that are plump and have a moist, slightly sticky skin. Avoid hens that are dry or have any blemishes.
  • Prepare the hens properly: Before cooking, rinse the hens inside and out and pat them dry. Remove any excess fat from the cavity and truss the hens to help them cook evenly.
  • Season the hens generously: Season the hens inside and out with salt, pepper, and your favorite herbs and spices. You can also add a compound butter or marinade to the hens for extra flavor.
  • Cook the hens to perfection: Roast the hens in a preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Baste the hens with butter or olive oil every 20 minutes to keep them moist.
  • Let the hens rest before serving: Once the hens are cooked, let them rest for 10 minutes before carving. This will help the juices redistribute throughout the meat, making it more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Cornish hens are a delicious and versatile dish that can be cooked in a variety of ways. Whether you're roasting them in the oven, grilling them on the barbecue, or frying them in a skillet, there's a Cornish hen recipe out there for everyone. With a little bit of planning and preparation, you can easily make a delicious Cornish hen dinner that your family and friends will love.
