Tips:

  • Choose the right apples and rhubarb: For the best flavor and texture, use a combination of tart and sweet apples. Some good choices include: Honeycrisp, Braeburn, Pink Lady, and Mutsu. For the rhubarb, look for stalks that are firm and brightly colored.
  • Prepare the apples and rhubarb properly: Peel and core the apples and cut them into thin slices. Trim the rhubarb and cut it into small pieces. You can also peel the rhubarb if you prefer.
  • Use a pre-made pie crust or make your own: If you're short on time, you can use a pre-made pie crust from the store. However, if you have the time, making your own pie crust is a great way to add a personal touch to your pie.
  • Don't overfill the pie crust: The filling should come up to the top of the pie crust, but it shouldn't be overflowing. If you overfill the pie crust, the filling will spill out during baking.
  • Bake the pie until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling: This usually takes about 45-50 minutes. You can check to see if the pie is done by inserting a toothpick into the center of the filling. If the toothpick comes out clean, the pie is done.

Conclusion:

Apple rhubarb pie is a classic dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and always a hit with family and friends. With its sweet and tangy filling and flaky crust, this pie is sure to be a favorite. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy-to-make dessert, give apple rhubarb pie a try.
