CHILI WITH FRESH SALSA

Chili With Fresh Salsa image

A delicious chili with fresh salsa as the main ingredient. This is an adaptation from Chuck and Dave's Salsa website. I love the freshness the salsa brings to the chili. If you prefer a spicier chili, consider using 2 tubs of hot salsa. If you prefer a more mild flavor, try 2 tubs of mild salsa. Enjoy, my family sure did!

Time 5m

Yield 4 Cups, 32 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (14 1/2 ounce) can tomatoes and green chilies
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can whole canned tomatoes (plus the juice)
4 teaspoons jalapenos (canned, diced, not pickled)
1/4 cup yellow onion (diced)
1/2-3/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon sugar

Steps:

  • In food processor place jalapenos and onions.
  • Process for just a few seconds.
  • Add both cans of tomatoes, salt, sugar, and cumin.
  • Process all ingredients until well blended but do not puree.
  • Place in covered container and chill.
  • A couple of hours of chilling will help blend and enrich the flavor.
  • Serve with your favorite thin corn tortilla chips.

Tips:

- Choose the right chilies: The type of chili you use will determine the heat level and flavor of your salsa. For a mild salsa, use poblano or Anaheim chilies. For a medium salsa, use jalapeños or serranos. For a hot salsa, use habaneros or cayenne peppers. - Roast your chilies: Roasting the chilies will bring out their flavor and make them easier to peel. You can roast chilies in the oven, on the stovetop, or under the broiler. - Remove the seeds and ribs: The seeds and ribs of the chilies are the hottest parts. If you want a milder salsa, remove them before chopping the chilies. - Use fresh ingredients: The fresher your ingredients, the better your salsa will taste. Use ripe tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and lime juice. - Season to taste: Add salt, pepper, and cumin to taste. You can also add other spices, such as garlic powder, chili powder, or paprika. - Chill before serving: Salsa is best when it's chilled. Let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Conclusion:

Fresh chili salsa is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be used as a dip, a topping, or a marinade. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make a delicious fresh chili salsa that will impress your friends and family.
