COFFEE GELATO
Italian-style coffee-flavored gelato. True gelato does not contain eggs and it will melt fairly quickly when removed from the cold. On the plus side, it's far lower in cholesterol than ice cream. It is recommended to eat when ready, but you can store for up to 3 days in an airtight container in the freezer.

LEMON GELATO
On a recent trip to Italy, I became addicted to gelato. My favorite choice was lemon because Italian lemons have an intense flavor. This recipe brings back memories of our vacation. -Gail Wang, Troy, Michigan

GELATO BAR
Steps:
- To make the milk chocolate sauce: Combine the cream and honey in a small heavy saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Remove from the heat and add the chocolate. Let stand until the chocolate melts, about 2 minutes, then whisk to combine. Cool the sauce slightly, then pour into a clear glass serving bowl or small pitcher. (The sauce can be made 1 week ahead. Cool completely, then cover and refrigerate.) Re-warm the sauce in the microwave, if necessary.
- To make the whipped cream: Using an electric mixer, beat the cream and sugar in a large bowl until soft peaks form. Transfer the whipped cream to a serving bowl. (The whipped cream can be made 2 hours ahead. Cover and refrigerate.)
- For the sundaes: Place each topping in a separate serving bowl. Scoop the gelato or ice cream into dessert bowls and drizzle with the milk chocolate sauce. Allow guests to sprinkle their desired toppings over their sundaes. Top with the whipped cream and cherries, if desired.
Tips:
- Chill your ingredients thoroughly before churning. This will help the gelato freeze more quickly and smoothly, resulting in a creamier texture.
- Use high-quality ingredients. The better the ingredients, the better the gelato. Look for fresh, ripe fruit, and use high-quality milk, cream, and sugar.
- Don't over-churn the gelato. Over-churning can make the gelato grainy and icy. Churn the gelato just until it is thick and creamy, about 20-30 minutes.
- Transfer the gelato to a freezer-safe container and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving. This will allow the gelato to firm up and develop its full flavor.
Conclusion:
Making gelato at home is a fun and rewarding experience. With a little practice, you can create delicious, creamy gelato that rivals the best gelaterias. So next time you're craving a sweet treat, try making your own gelato. You won't be disappointed!
