Time 34m

Yield 5 sandwiches, 5 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

10 1/4 inches slice bread
1/4 cup olive oil
2 teaspoons freshly cracked pepper
16 1/4 inches slice camembert cheese or 16 1/4 inches brie cheese

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil and cracked pepper over low heat. Turn off heat and let infuse for 10 minutes.
  • Place sliced cheese on half of the bread slices (making sure the cheese comes to the edge of the crust). Place top slice on each sandwich and put them together so they are crust to crust. Cover all the sandwiches with a layer of plastic wrap and place a medium cutting board on top of sandwiches to gently weigh them down for 15 minutes.
  • Using a pastry brush, thoroughly brush surface of both faces of the sandwich with the pepper oil.
  • Preheat a Panini griddle on low or a medium saute pan over low heat. Wipe surface with a little oil. Place sandwiches in griddle or pan and cook until lightly browned, 2-3 minutes per side until cheese is melted. Keep heat low so bread doesn't burn.
  • Serve with tomato soup.

Time 16m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

4 teaspoons salted butter, at room temperature (real butter)
8 slices French bread, cut on an angle 1/4-inch thick
3 tablespoons raspberry jam or 3 tablespoons apricot jam
5 ounces ripe brie cheese (leave the slices at room temperature for easier spreading) or 5 ounces camembert cheese, rind removed, cheese sliced while cold (leave the slices at room temperature for easier spreading)

Steps:

  • Butter all the bread slices on one side only. Put them all, buttered side down, on a cutting board. Spread four of the slices with a thin layer of jam (about 2 teaspoons per slice). Spread the cheese on the other four slices. Pair the jam slices with the cheese slices.
  • Heat a large nonstick pan or griddle over medium-high heat for 2 minutes. Put as many sandwiches as will fit in the pan or on the-griddle without crowding, cover and cook until the cheese has just begun to melt and the bread is golden brown, about 2 minutes. Remove the lid and turn the sandwiches, pressing each one firmly with a spatula to flatten it slightly. Cook the sandwiches uncovered until the bottom is golden brown, about 1 minute. Turn them once more and press with the spatula again to recrisp the bread, about 30 seconds. Cut the sandwiches in halves or quarters and serve immediately.

Tips:

  • Select ripe but firm cheese: Brie and Camembert cheeses should be ripe but still firm enough to hold their shape when grilled. Avoid cheeses that are too soft or runny, as they will not hold up well on the grill.
  • Use good quality bread: The type of bread you use will make a big difference in the overall taste of your sandwich. Choose a sturdy bread that can hold up to the gooey cheese and grilled vegetables.
  • Add your favorite toppings: Once you have grilled your cheese sandwiches, you can add your favorite toppings. Some popular options include sliced tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, and arugula.
  • Serve immediately: Grilled cheese sandwiches are best served immediately after they are made. The cheese will start to cool and harden as it sits, so enjoy them while they're hot and gooey.

Conclusion:

Grilled cheese sandwiches are a classic comfort food that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are quick and easy to make, and they can be customized to suit your own taste. Whether you prefer a simple grilled cheese sandwich with just cheese and bread or a more elaborate sandwich with grilled vegetables and toppings, these recipes are sure to satisfy your craving for cheesy goodness.
