Provided by Pat Duran

Categories     Meat Appetizers

Time 1h5m

Number Of Ingredients 18

HAM BALLS
1 1/2 lb ground ham
2/3 lb ground fresh pork (sometimes i use jimmy dean sausage)
1 c soft fine bread crumbs (i use seasoned italian crumbs)
2/3 c evaporated milk
1/2 tsp dry mustard
1/4 tsp pepper
1 large egg, beaten
1/3 c minced onion
1 pinch each celery salt and ground cloves
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp whiskey, optional (grandma loved her whiskey)
GLAZE
1 c brown sugar,packed
1/2 c vinegar ( i use whole cranberry sauce)
1 tsp dry mustard
1/2 c water (i use pineapple or orange juice)
1 Tbsp cornstarch

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350^. Spray or grease 2 jelly roll pans. Set aside. Mix together meats, bread crumbs, milk, spices, sugar, whiskey and egg, until well mixed. Shape into the size balls you like, from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inch to 2 inch..depends on how you want to use them. I like the smaller size for appetizers.
  • 2. Place meatballs on a greased or sprayed jelly roll or sheet pan with sides; do not crowd. Bake for 30 minutes (remove accumulated grease with a kitchen baster) and then spoon a little glaze over each meatball; and bake for 30 more minutes or less depending on size of meatballs; be sure to baste meatballs often adding more glaze as needed.
  • 3. Place fisished meatball in a serving bowl and pour any remaing glaze over them. Have plenty of round wooden toothpicks on hand.
  • 4. GLAZE: Combine water and cornstarch, stir to blend. Combine all remaining ingredients and bring to a boil; stir in cornstarch mixture; cook and stir 1 minute or until glaze has thickened .

HOLIDAY HAM & CHEESE BALL

Holiday Ham & Cheese Ball image

My mother always makes this cheese ball at Christmas, and growing up, I never realized there was any other kind of "cheese ball" but this one. I now make it for get togethers, holidays, or sometimes just because it's so good! There is never any left overs, and everyone always wants the recipe. This recipe makes 1 large ball or 2 small balls. *Note: My mother puts 1 tsp of Accent (MSG) in hers. I never buy this stuff, so I leave it out, and I can't tell a difference.

Provided by Mrs. Hooper

Categories     Spreads

Time 20m

Yield 1 large ball, 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 lb lean ham, thinly sliced
1 bunch green onion
1 -2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Place the cream cheese in a large, covered bowl and allow to soften at room temperature while preparing the other ingredients.
  • Lay several pieces of ham on a cutting board and slice into 1/2" strips. Turn the cutting board and slice again, forming small squares. Set aside in a medium bowl or on a plate and separate the squares. Repeat with the rest of the ham.
  • Slice the bunch of green onions into very thin rings.
  • When the cheese is softened, add in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, green onions (add all or just enough for your preference), and 1/2 of the ham. Mix together well until ingredients are uniformly distributed.
  • Using a large piece of plastic wrap, shape the cream cheese mixture into a ball. Roll the ball in the remaining ham pieces (faster) or manually press the ham squares into the cheese ball (prettier). Place on a plate and wrap in plastic wrap. Allow to chill for a few hours or overnight before serving. Serve with crackers, vegetables or crusty bread.

COUNTRY HAM CHEESE BALL

Country Ham Cheese Ball image

This is very similiar to one offered by one of the local grocery stores here. Except they charge you almost $10.00 for it. Our family always makes an assortment of "finger foods" for our get-togethers. This is a good choice for grazing at a party! Please note that the prep/cook time does not include refrigeration time.

Provided by Jess_FinsUp

Categories     Very Low Carbs

Time 25m

Yield 1 Cheeseball, 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup diced cooked country ham
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon liquid smoke
1 (8 ounce) package slivered almonds (optional)

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients, except almonds, in a large bowl.
  • Form into a large ball, or two smaller balls, if you prefer.
  • Pour the almonds into a pie plate, or onto a dinner plate.
  • Roll the ball(s) in the almonds to coat.
  • Place into a bowl or on a plate and refrigerate until firm.

Tips:

  • To make sure the ham balls stay moist and flavorful, use a combination of ground ham, breadcrumbs, and eggs as the base. Add some grated onion and garlic for extra flavor.
  • To create a crispy coating, dredge the ham balls in flour before frying. You can also coat them in crushed crackers or bread crumbs for a different texture.
  • If you don't have time to fry the ham balls, you can bake them in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15 minutes, or until they are cooked through.
  • Serve the ham balls with your favorite dipping sauce, such as honey mustard, barbecue sauce, or ranch dressing.
  • For a complete meal, serve the ham balls with mashed potatoes, green beans, or a side salad.

Conclusion:

Ham balls are a versatile and delicious dish that can be enjoyed as an appetizer, main course, or snack. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give ham balls a try!
