CHERRY SAUCE FOR HAM

Cherry Sauce for Ham image

"I often whip up this simple topping to pour over ham at church dinners," Tess Krumm comments. "It's long been a favored condiment there - and at home, too." The concoction's spicy zing comes from the dab of mustard this Fargo, North Dakota cook pours into the mix.

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon prepared mustard

Steps:

  • Combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Serve with ham.

Tips:

  • Use fresh cherries for the sauce to ensure the best flavor. If using frozen cherries, thaw them completely before using.
  • To make the sauce ahead of time, cook it according to the recipe and then store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. When ready to use, reheat the sauce over low heat until warmed through.
  • If you don't have a meat thermometer, you can check the ham's internal temperature by inserting a knife into the thickest part of the ham. If the juices run clear, the ham is done.
  • Let the ham rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. This will help the juices redistribute throughout the ham, making it more tender and flavorful.
  • Serve the ham with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a green salad.

Conclusion:

This ham with spiced cherry sauce is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a special occasion or a weeknight meal. The ham is tender and juicy, and the sauce is sweet and tangy. Whether you serve it with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a green salad, this dish is sure to be a hit.
