Time 45m

Yield 10

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (12 ounce) container fully cooked luncheon meat (e.g. Spam), chopped
1 (8 ounce) can water chestnuts, drained and chopped
3 tablespoons green onions, chopped
3 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
3 hard-cooked eggs, peeled and chopped
½ teaspoon pepper
1 ½ tablespoons oyster sauce
1 (14 ounce) package square wonton wrappers
1 quart vegetable oil for frying

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, mix together the lunchmeat, water chestnuts, green onions, parsley, hard-cooked eggs, pepper, and oyster sauce. Set aside.
  • On a clean flat surface, such as a cutting board, lay out 4 to 6 wonton skins at a time. Place a tablespoon of the meat mixture into the center of each one. Keep a small bowl of water next to the work area to dip fingers in. Use wet fingers to moisten the corners of each wrapper. Quickly pinch all 4 corners together to seal in the filling. If it doesn't hold, use more water. Keep filled wontons covered with plastic wrap to prevent drying while the others are made.
  • Heat one inch of oil in a deep heavy skillet over medium-high heat, or heat recommended amount of oil in a deep-fryer to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C). Fry wontons for a few minutes on each side, or until golden. Remove to paper towels to absorb excess grease. Enjoy the grinds!

KONA K'S GROUND BEEF WONTONS

Kona K's Ground Beef Wontons image

These wontons are much healthier and lower in fat than those made with ground pork (especially if you use extra lean ground beef). They freeze really well, so you can make a bunch and freeze them for later use (just steam them straight out of the freezer).

Provided by Kona K

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 35m

Yield 35-40 wontons, 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb extra lean ground beef
4 cups napa cabbage, chopped finely
2 tablespoons garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ginger, minced
2 tablespoons green onions, chopped finely
1 tablespoon sesame oil
2 tablespoons soy sauce
salt & pepper
35 -40 wonton wrappers
water

Steps:

  • Combine ground beef, napa cabbage, garlic, ginger and green onions in large bowl. Using your (clean) hands, combine all ingredients well.
  • In another small bowl, mix the sesame oil, soy sauce, and salt and pepper.
  • Pour the sesame oil mixture into the ground beef mixture, and mix well.
  • Place a small amount of beef mixture (around 1 TB) in middle of wonton wrapper. Dip your finger into water, and trace around half the edge of the wonton wrapper. Fold the wrapper in half and use your fingers to crimp the edge shut. Make sure you don't put in too much mixture, or the wontons will explode.
  • To cook -- if the wontons are fresh, steam for approximately 5-10 minutes (or until the inside is cooked thoroughly). If they are frozen, they will need to steam for about 5 minutes longer.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh wonton wrappers: Fresh wonton wrappers are more pliable and less likely to tear when you're frying them. You can find them in the refrigerated section of most Asian grocery stores.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When you're frying the wontons, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent them from cooking evenly and will make them more likely to stick together.
  • Use a high-quality oil: Use a high-quality oil with a high smoke point, such as grapeseed oil or canola oil. This will help prevent the oil from burning and will give the wontons a crispy texture.
  • Fry the wontons in batches: If you're making a large batch of wontons, fry them in batches. This will help prevent the oil from getting too hot and will ensure that the wontons cook evenly.
  • Serve the wontons with your favorite dipping sauce: Wontons are traditionally served with a dipping sauce, such as soy sauce, sweet and sour sauce, or duck sauce. You can also serve them with a simple dipping sauce made from rice vinegar, soy sauce, and sesame oil.

Conclusion:

Hawaiian fried wontons are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack. They're perfect for parties or potlucks, and they can also be served as a main course. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make these delicious wontons at home. So next time you're looking for a tasty and satisfying snack, give Hawaiian fried wontons a try.
