Provided by Breana Jackson

Categories     Drinks

Time 6h45m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

3 pink lady apples, quartered, plus 1, thinly sliced, for garnish
3 granny smith apples, quartered
3 honeycrisp apples, quartered
3 gala apples, quartered
4 whole cinnamon sticks, toasted, plus more for garnish
1 tablespoon whole clove
3 whole allspice berries
2 whole nutmegs, halved
1 fresh ginger, peeled, 2 in (5 cm)
1 orange, peeled
10 cups water, as needed
1 cup dark brown sugar
bourbon, or whiskey, for serving
6 slices orange slice, for garnish

Steps:

  • Add the quartered Pink Lady, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Gala apples, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, nutmeg, ginger, and orange peel to the Instant Pot. Pour in enough water to cover the apples. Sauté on high until simmering, 15-20 minutes. Cover with the lid and pressure cook on high for 6 hours. Once done, let the pressure release naturally before opening the lid.
  • Strain the solids and pour the cider back into the pot. Add the sugar and sauté on high for another 5-10 minutes, until the sugar has dissolved.
  • Ladle the hot cider into mugs or glasses. If desired, stir in a shot of bourbon or whiskey. Garnish with the orange and apple slices. Alternatively, to serve cold, transfer the cider to a covered pitcher or container and refrigerate until chilled. The cider will keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
  • Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use fresh, crisp apples. This will give your cider the best flavor.
  • Choose a variety of apples. This will give your cider a more complex flavor.
  • Don't peel the apples. The peels add flavor and color to the cider.
  • Use a slow cooker or Dutch oven. This will allow the cider to simmer gently and develop its flavor.
  • Add spices to taste. Common spices used in apple cider include cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  • Serve the cider warm. This is the traditional way to enjoy apple cider.
  • Garnish the cider with a cinnamon stick or apple slice. This will make your cider look more festive.

Conclusion:

Hot apple cider with ginger is a delicious and comforting drink that is perfect for fall and winter. It is easy to make and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. So next time you are looking for a warm and cozy drink, give hot apple cider with ginger a try. You won't be disappointed!
