Provided by Bobbie

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 8h10m

Yield 16 sandwiches

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 (4 -5 lb) rump roast
1 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
2 (10 1/2 ounce) cans condensed beef broth
1 (12 ounce) can beer or 1 (12 ounce) can non-alcoholic beer
2 garlic cloves, minced
16 onion hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • Place beef roast in 3 1/2 to 4 quart slow cooker. In medium bowl, combine all remaining ingredients except buns. Pour over beef.
  • Cover and cook on low setting for 8 to 10 hours.
  • Remove beef from slow cooker; place on cutting board or large plate. Slice beef with a knife or shred using 2 forks.
  • Place meat on buns.
  • If desired, skim fat from juices in slow cooker (how much fat present will depend on the cut of meat).
  • Serve sandwiches with individual portions of juice for dipping.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: Chuck roast or brisket are both good choices for a hot beef sandwich. They are both flavorful and tender when cooked slowly.
  • Cook the beef until it is fall-apart tender: This can be done in a slow cooker, oven, or on the stovetop. The exact cooking time will depend on the method you choose.
  • Shred the beef with two forks: Once the beef is cooked, shred it with two forks. This will make it easier to eat on a sandwich.
  • Make a flavorful gravy: The gravy is an important part of a hot beef sandwich. You can make a simple gravy by whisking together beef broth, flour, and butter. Or, you can get more creative and add in other ingredients like mushrooms, onions, or garlic.
  • Use a sturdy bread: The bread you use for your hot beef sandwich should be able to hold up to the gravy and beef. A good choice is a crusty French bread or a kaiser roll.
  • Add your favorite toppings: There are many different toppings you can add to your hot beef sandwich. Some popular choices include cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion. You can also get creative and add in other toppings like avocado, bacon, or horseradish.

Conclusion:

A hot beef sandwich is a classic comfort food that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. So next time you are looking for a hearty and delicious meal, give a hot beef sandwich a try. You won't be disappointed!
