THE ULTIMATE GREEK SALAD

The Ultimate Greek Salad image

This is the most delicious salad - fresh and wonderful-tasting. FYI, lettuce can very much be a part of any greek salad - if you want it to. We like lettuce in my family and I often add it. It would not be 'authentic' in a Horiatiki (village) salad, but who cares?

Tips:

  • Use fresh, ripe ingredients: The quality of your ingredients will make a big difference in the final dish. Choose fresh, ripe tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions. Use a good quality feta cheese and Kalamata olives.
  • Cut the vegetables evenly: This will help them cook evenly. Cut the tomatoes and cucumbers into 1-inch cubes, and the onions into thin slices.
  • Don't overcook the vegetables: The vegetables should be tender-crisp, not mushy. Cook them for just a few minutes, until they are softened but still have a little bit of crunch.
  • Use a good quality olive oil: Olive oil is a key ingredient in Greek salad. Use a good quality extra virgin olive oil that has a fruity, peppery flavor.
  • Season the salad to taste: Add salt, pepper, and oregano to taste. You can also add a squeeze of lemon juice or a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.

Conclusion:

Greek salad is a delicious, healthy, and refreshing dish that is perfect for summer. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Experiment with different types of vegetables, cheeses, and dressings to find your perfect combination.
