Even though I'm single, I make multiple servings of everything. Actually, this tendency has helped me to get to know my neighbors. A few of them always volunteer to be my guinea pigs whenever I try out a new recipe or two. -Cheryl Trowbridge, Windsor, Ontario

Tips:

  • Soak the beans overnight: This will help to reduce the cooking time and make the beans more digestible. If you don't have time to soak the beans overnight, you can quick-soak them by boiling them for 1 minute, then removing them from the heat and letting them sit for 1 hour.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: This will add flavor and nutrients to your soup. Some good choices include carrots, celery, onions, leeks, and potatoes.
  • Add some herbs and spices: This will help to give your soup a delicious flavor. Some good choices include bay leaves, thyme, rosemary, oregano, and garlic.
  • Don't overcook the beans: This will make them mushy. The beans are done when they are tender but still hold their shape.
  • Serve the soup with a side of bread or salad: This will make a complete and satisfying meal.

Conclusion:

Great Northern bean soup is a delicious, hearty, and affordable soup that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is also a great way to use up leftover beans. With a few simple ingredients and a little time, you can make a pot of soup that your family and friends will love.
