½ cup soy sauce, divided
1 ¼ cups chicken broth
1 cup water
1 tablespoon sesame oil
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons cornstarch

Tips:

  • For the best texture, use a combination of thick and thin noodles. Thick noodles will hold the sauce better, while thin noodles will add a delicate texture.
  • To prevent the noodles from sticking together, rinse them under cold water after cooking and toss them with a little bit of oil.
  • If you don't have Chinese rice wine, you can substitute dry sherry or white wine.
  • To make the sauce ahead of time, simply combine all of the ingredients in a bowl or jar and refrigerate for up to 3 days. When you're ready to use it, just heat it up over medium heat until it's warmed through.
  • If you want to add some extra vegetables to your lo mein, try adding some chopped broccoli, carrots, or bell peppers. Just be sure to cook them before adding them to the noodles.
