Jumbo Shells Stuffed With Cheese With Meat image

A really yummy way to make jumbo shells stuffed with cheese taste. It makes a large amount but could be cut in half. I think it is something you could be sure people would like and be really different. I found the basic on the back of the Barilla noodles box but fixed it up some as it would have seemed bland, so I made this and we love it.

When I use my glass 13 x 9 x 2 pan, all the shells with not fit and I have a few left. I stuff each shell one at a time and put them in the pan as I go.

STUFFED JUMBO PASTA SHELLS

Stuffed Jumbo Pasta Shells image

This is an extremely easy recipe for one of my favorite meatless Italian meals. You can use this as a basis for many other wonderful, delicious meals. Add your own ground Italian sausage right in with the cheese mixture. Choose your own sauce, or any one of the delicious onee on the shelf of your supermarket. You'll love this, and your own touches will make it special! Note**: Add the salt to the water in which you will cook the pasta only AFTER the water has come to a boil. If you add it to the water before it boils, it will hinder the boiling process.

Provided by Miss Tinkerbell

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 1h5m

Yield 10-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 (12 ounce) package jumbo pasta shells
4 cups ricotta cheese (I used light and still tastes great)
2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded (I used a tomato mozarella cheese for something different)
3/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
3 eggs
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
3/4 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
3 cups spaghetti sauce (I used the same amount of tomato sauce and added tomato paste to thicken it up, and added seasonings)

Steps:

  • Cook pasta according to package directions.
  • Combine cheeses, eggs, parsley, oregano, salt and pepper.
  • Fill each pasta shell with about 2 tablespoons of the cheese mixture.
  • Spread a thin layer of sauce on bottom of a 13x9 inch baking pan.
  • Place pasta in the pan; cover with remaining sauce.
  • Sprinkle with additional Parmesan cheese, if desired.
  • Cover with aluminum foil.
  • Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 35 minutes or until hot and bubbly.

Tips:

  • To make the jumbo shells easier to fill, use a piping bag or a large spoon.
  • If you don't have ricotta cheese, you can substitute cottage cheese or mashed potatoes.
  • For a vegetarian version of this dish, use a meatless ground beef substitute or chopped vegetables.
  • To make the sauce ahead of time, simply cook it according to the recipe and then let it cool completely. Store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
  • You can also use a slow cooker to make this dish. Simply combine all of the ingredients in the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours.

Conclusion:

Meat-filled jumbo shells are a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a dish that will impress your family and friends. So next time you're looking for a new and exciting way to serve pasta, give meat-filled jumbo shells a try.
