Murray's Spaghetti Sandwiches image

This is an awesome way to eat spaghetti, for kids and adults. I've eaten these since I was a kid and still love them! No buttered Italian bread on the side for me thanks, I'll have my spaghetti Murray style! Buttering the bread really gives this recipe it's pizzaz! This recipe is just a simple guide for pasta and sauce but any recipe would work. It's great for leftover spaghetti too. Just warm the spaghetti in the microwave, and make the sandwiches. YUM! Oh, BTW, Murray is Bird's dad who is famous for his budget meals ;)

Time 30m

Yield 20 sandwiches, 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 lb ground beef
1 teaspoon italian seasoning
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 (32 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce (recommended 2bleu's 2 Minute 2 Easy Pizza Sauce)
1 (8 ounce) box spaghetti, cooked as directed
1 loaf sliced white bread (20 slices)
1 cup butter, room temperature (2 sticks)

Steps:

  • To a large dutch oven over medium-high heat add ground beef and seasoning. Cook until meat is no longer pink.
  • Drain, return meat to pot and add olive oil. Stir in the sauce and cook to heat. Add pasta and toss to combine, heating through.
  • Butter the bread slices and serve them at the table with the spaghetti. Let everyone grab a slice of bread and place a heaping forkful or so of spaghetti into the center of the bread elongated like a hot dog. Fold the bread around it and enjoy!
  • NOTE: Eat over the plate as it can get a bit messy, but in a yummy sort of way. :).

1/2 cup red wine
1 tablespoon sugar
1 pound ground beef
2 eggs
1/4 cup grated Parmesan
1 tablespoon dried thyme
1 tablespoon dried oregano
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/4 pound unsalted butter

MURRAY'S FRIED SPAGHETTI

A great use of leftovers, and one of Bird's Dad's best recipes for a budget. Amounts are rough estimates, as it just depends on how much 'leftover' stuff you have available. Salt and black pepper are the only spices needed for this dish, although peppery makes a nice kick to it.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients. This will make a big difference in the flavor of your sandwiches.
  • Cook your pasta al dente. This means that it should be cooked until it is still slightly firm to the bite. This will prevent it from becoming mushy in your sandwiches.
  • Use a good quality sauce. You can use your own homemade sauce or a store-bought sauce. If you are using a store-bought sauce, be sure to doctor it up with some fresh herbs and spices.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment. There are endless possibilities when it comes to spaghetti sandwiches. You can add different toppings, such as meatballs, sausage, peppers, or onions. You can also use different types of bread, such as hoagie rolls, French bread, or even croissants.
  • Serve your sandwiches hot or cold. Spaghetti sandwiches are delicious either way. If you are serving them hot, be sure to heat them up until the cheese is melted and gooey. If you are serving them cold, be sure to let them chill for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Conclusion:

Spaghetti sandwiches are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for any occasion. They are also a great way to use up leftover spaghetti. So next time you have some leftover spaghetti, don't just reheat it. Instead, try making a spaghetti sandwich. You won't be disappointed.
