Categories     side-dish

Time 35m

Yield 12-14 biscuits

Number Of Ingredients 12

Cooking spray
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons baking powder
2 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons vegetable shortening, at room temperature
4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
6 ounces grated yellow cheddar cheese (about 1 1/4 cups)
3/4 cup whole milk
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 clove garlic, smashed
1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley

Steps:

  • Position a rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat to 425 degrees. Lightly mist a large baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Make the biscuits: Pulse the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt in a food processor. Add the shortening and pulse until combined. Add the butter; pulse 4 or 5 times, or until the butter is in pea-size pieces. Add the cheese and pulse 2 or 3 times. Pour in the milk and pulse just until the mixture is moistened and forms a shaggy dough. Turn out onto a clean surface and gently knead until the dough comes together. Do not overwork the dough or the biscuits will be tough.
  • Drop the dough onto the baking sheet in scant 1/4-cup portions, 2 inches apart, and bake until golden, 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, make the garlic butter: Melt the butter with the garlic in a small saucepan over medium heat; cook for 1 minute. Remove from the heat and stir in the parsley. Brush the biscuits with the garlic butter and serve warm.

EASY CHEDDAR GARLIC DROP BISCUITS RECIPE - (4/5)

Easy Cheddar Garlic Drop Biscuits Recipe - (4/5) image

Provided by msippigrl

Number Of Ingredients 10

GARLIC BUTTER TOPPING:
2 1/2 cups all-purpose baking mix (such as Bisquick)(I used Great Value brand)
1/2 stick (1/4-cup) cold salted butter
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded (I hand shredded half an 8-ounce block of mild cheddar)
3/4 cup milk (I used 2%)
1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Pinch of cayenne pepper, optional
2 tablespoons salted butter
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley flakes

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450° F. Lightly grease or line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. In a medium mixing bowl, use a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the baking mix until there are small chunks of butter about the size of peas. Stir in the cheddar cheese and garlic powder. Using a large fork or spoon, lightly stir mixture together while drizzling in the milk, only until the mixture is combined. Do not overmix as it will result in tough biscuits. Drop 1/3 cup portions of the dough onto the baking sheet (I used an ice cream scoop). Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the tops of biscuits are beginning to lightly brown. Make the Garlic Butter while the biscuits are baking by melting butter is a small bowl in the microwave. Stir in garlic salt and parsley. When biscuits are done, use a brush to spread the Garlic Butter over the tops of the biscuits. If desired, sprinkle a little kosher salt on the top of the biscuits.

Tips:

  • Use cold butter or shortening: This will help the biscuits to be light and flaky.
  • Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing will make the biscuits tough.
  • Drop the dough onto the baking sheet immediately after mixing: This will help the biscuits to rise evenly.
  • Bake the biscuits in a hot oven: This will help the biscuits to brown and rise properly.
  • Serve the biscuits warm: This is when they are at their best.

Conclusion:

These cheddar drop biscuits are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that is perfect for any occasion. They are light and flaky, with a cheesy flavor that everyone will love. You can serve them with butter, honey, or your favorite dipping sauce. Give them a try today and see for yourself how delicious they are!
