Tips for Making Old-Fashioned Meatloaf

  • Choose the right ground beef: A combination of ground chuck and ground sirloin is a good choice for meatloaf, as it provides a good balance of flavor and texture.
  • Season the meatloaf well: Use a variety of seasonings, such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika, to give the meatloaf flavor.
  • Add some moisture: To prevent the meatloaf from becoming dry, add some moisture to the mixture, such as eggs, bread crumbs, or ketchup.
  • Don't overmix the meatloaf: Overmixing the meatloaf can make it tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Shape the meatloaf: Form the meatloaf mixture into a loaf shape and place it in a baking dish.
  • Bake the meatloaf: Bake the meatloaf in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about an hour, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Let the meatloaf rest: Let the meatloaf rest for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
  • Serve the meatloaf with your favorite sides: Mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, and gravy are all great side dishes for meatloaf.
