Time 3h45m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 1/2 Tbsp packed light brown sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp paprika
1 Tbsp cumin
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
4 lb beef brisket, trimmed
2 large onions thick sliced
3/4 c beer (not flavored)
1 c barbecue sauce (your favorite)

Steps:

  • 1. In small bowl mix together brown sugar, paprika, cumin, black pepper, salt, onion powder and garlic powder. Rub all over the brisket on both sides and let sit for 30 minutes.
  • 2. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Place brisket in large roasting pan (with fat side down) and cover with sliced onions. Pour beer and barbecue sauce over the top. Cover well with aluminum foil and bake for 3 1/2 - 4 hours. You can check to see if the brisket is done by slicing off a small piece of the edge and seeing if it comes apart with a gentle tug. Remove from pan and trim any excess fat away. Brush with any extra sauce and place under broiler or on grill for 1-2 minutes. Flip and repeat for the other side. Stay close by as broilers are unpredictable.
  • 3. Cover and let rest for 20-30 minutes. Slice against the grain at a perpendicular angle. If desired serve with extra barbecue sauce.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of meat: Brisket is a large, tough cut of meat that benefits from long, slow cooking. Look for a brisket that is well-marbled, as this will help to keep it moist during cooking.
  • Prepare the brisket properly: Before cooking, trim the brisket of any excess fat and season it generously with salt, pepper, and your favorite spices. You can also add a rub or marinade to the brisket to enhance the flavor.
  • Cook the brisket slowly and low: Brisket is best cooked at a low temperature for a long period of time. This allows the meat to break down and become tender. The ideal cooking temperature for brisket is between 225°F and 250°F.
  • Monitor the brisket closely: Brisket can take anywhere from 8 to 12 hours to cook, so it's important to monitor it closely to make sure that it doesn't overcook. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the brisket. The brisket is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 200°F.
  • Let the brisket rest before carving: Once the brisket is cooked, let it rest for at least 30 minutes before carving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, making it more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Oven-baked brisket is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a special occasion or a family gathering. By following these tips, you can ensure that your brisket turns out perfect every time.
