Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 lb ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
3 tablespoons steak sauce, I like A-1
1/2 cup beef broth
salt and black pepper, to taste
1 dash Worcestershire sauce (optional)
4 large hamburger buns
1 tablespoon butter, for toasting buns
provolone cheese (sliced) or Cheez Whiz
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon flour
1 cup milk
1 cup provolone cheese (shredded)

Steps:

  • Add the oil to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook 5-6 minutes or until no longer pink. Add the onion and bell pepper and continue to cook 2-3 minutes or until crisp tender. Drain off any fat. Stir in the steak sauce and beef broth (and Worcestershire, if using). Season with salt and pepper. Cook until liquid is gone.
  • Butter the cut sides of the buns. Toast the buttered sides in a hot skillet on medium-high heat. Set aside.
  • To make the cheese sauce, melt the butter in a 1-quart saucepan over medium-high heat. Whisk in the flour and cook about 1 minute. Whisk in milk, bring up to a bubble and cook until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the cheese. Season with salt and pepper, if desired.
  • To serve, place a scoop of the meat mixture onto the bottom half of the buns. Top with cheese sauce (or cheese) and cover with the top half of the bun.

PHILLY CHEESESTEAK SLOPPY JOES

Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes image

This Philly cheesesteak sloppy joe may be a bite-size sandwich but it's big of flavor. Onions and green bell peppers really give the overall meat tons of flavor. The small amount of steak sauce is just enough to add a little tang. Topping with a provolone cheese sauce is delicious. The sauce is creamier than melting a slice of...

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 Tbsp olive oil
1 lb ground beef
1 large onion (chopped)
1 medium green pepper (chopped)
2 Tbsp steak sauce
1 c beef broth
salt and pepper
1 pkg dinner rolls (12-18 needed)
1 Tbsp butter
1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1 c milk
1 c provolone cheese (shredded)

Steps:

  • 1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the oil.
  • 2. Then brown the ground beef, about 5-6 minutes.
  • 3. Add the onion and green pepper and cook another 3-4 minutes, until the vegetables start to get tender.
  • 4. Stir in the steak sauce and beef broth, season with salt and pepper.
  • 5. Bring up to a bubble and cook about 2 minutes.
  • 6. Split open rolls and remove most of the soft insides, leaving a bed to hold the meat mixture.
  • 7. Toast the rolls and set aside.
  • 8. While the meat is cooking, melt the butter in a medium-size pot over medium-high heat. Stir in the flour and cook about 1 minute.
  • 9. Whisk in milk.
  • 10. Bring up to a bubble and let thicken, about 2 minutes.
  • 11. Turn off heat and stir in the cheese.
  • 12. To serve, place a scoopful of the meat mixture onto the bottom of the rolls.
  • 13. Then top with the cheese sauce.
  • 14. Replace the top of the roll.

Tips:

  • Choose the right bread: A classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich uses a hoagie roll, but you can also use other types of bread, such as a French roll or a sub roll. Just make sure the bread is sturdy enough to hold up to the fillings.
  • Slice the steak thinly: This will help it cook evenly and quickly. You can use a sharp knife or a meat slicer to slice the steak.
  • Use a good quality cheese: The cheese is one of the most important ingredients in a Philly cheesesteak, so don't skimp on it. Use a cheese that melts well, such as American, provolone, or Cheez Whiz.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking the steak, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the steak from cooking evenly. Cook the steak in batches if necessary.
  • Serve immediately: Philly cheesesteaks are best served immediately after they are made. The bread will get soggy if you let it sit for too long.

Conclusion:

Philly cheesesteak sloppy joes are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a party or a weeknight dinner. They are made with all of the classic Philly cheesesteak ingredients, such as steak, cheese, and onions, but they are served on a soft and fluffy bun instead of a hoagie roll. This makes them a fun and portable way to enjoy this classic sandwich.
