SWEET AND SOUR PINEAPPLE HAM STEAKS

Got leftovers? I found this recipe in Woman's Day magazine. I have not tried this recipe, but I'm posting it for safe keeping.

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 11m

Yield 4-5 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

8 ounces crushed pineapple or 8 ounces pineapple chunks in juice
1/4 cup white vinegar
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon less sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
leftover ham slices

Steps:

  • Combine pineapple, vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup and soy sauce in a saucepan and heat to boiling.
  • Stir cornstarch with water. Stir into sauce and boil 1 minute.
  • Spoon over warmed slices of leftover ham. Serve extra sauce on the side.

Tips:

  • To ensure your ham steaks are cooked evenly, use a meat thermometer to check that they have reached an internal temperature of 140°F (60°C).
  • If you don't have a meat thermometer, you can also check if the ham steaks are done by cutting into the thickest part of the meat. The juices should run clear, not pink.
  • To add a bit of extra flavor to your ham steaks, you can marinate them in a mixture of pineapple juice, brown sugar, and soy sauce for at least 30 minutes before cooking.
  • If you're using canned pineapple rings, be sure to drain them well before adding them to the skillet.
  • You can also use fresh pineapple chunks instead of canned pineapple rings. Just be sure to cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  • If you don't have any brown sugar on hand, you can use white sugar instead. Just be sure to reduce the amount by half, as brown sugar is sweeter than white sugar.
  • You can serve pineapple ham steaks with a variety of side dishes, such as mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or rice.

Conclusion:

Pineapple ham steaks are a quick and easy meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner. They are also a great way to use up leftover ham. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and flavorful dish that your whole family will enjoy. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give pineapple ham steaks a try!
