POSSUM'S NO-COOK BBQ SAUCE

Possum's No-Cook BBQ Sauce image

Sweet and tangy, great on ribs, steaks, chicken, you name it! The only time it takes to make this is the time to find the ingredients and mix them into a bowl. This recipe was in its original form one of Emeril's barbecue sauces as seen on his TV show. It's since been tweaked, perhaps not to perfection, but to my & my family's taste.

NO-COOK BARBECUE SAUCE

Though I'm all for high- quality prepared sauces and such to use as shortcuts, I've never found a bottled vegan barbecue sauce I really like. But this nearly instant sauce is so easy that I've ended the search. It's especially good with tofu, tempeh, and seitan.

Yield Makes about 1 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/4 cups tomato sauce
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon molasses (optional)
1 to 2 tablespoons reduced-sodium natural soy sauce, or to taste
1 teaspoon sweet or smoked paprika
1 to 2 teaspoons good-quality chili powder, or to taste
1 teaspoon dried oregano or basil

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well. If time allows, cover and let stand at room temperature for an hour or so to allow the flavors to combine more fully. If you need to use it right away, go ahead-it will still be quite good.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of peppers to create a complex flavor. Bell peppers, jalapeños, and cayenne peppers are all good options.
  • Roast the peppers before adding them to the sauce. This will help to bring out their sweetness and flavor.
  • Use a food processor or blender to puree the peppers. This will create a smooth sauce.
  • Add other ingredients to taste, such as garlic, onion, cumin, or chili powder.
  • Let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Conclusion:

Possum's No-Cook BBQ Sauce is a delicious and versatile sauce that can be used on a variety of dishes. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. Whether you like it mild or spicy, Possum's No-Cook BBQ Sauce is sure to please everyone at your next cookout.
