Tips:
- Choose the right potatoes: Waxy potatoes, such as Yukon Gold or Red Bliss, hold their shape better than starchy potatoes, such as Russet, and are less likely to fall apart during baking.
- Slice the potatoes thinly: This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from becoming too mushy.
- Use a good-quality ground beef: An 80/20 blend of lean to fat will give you the best flavor and texture.
- Season the ground beef well: Don't be afraid to use plenty of salt, pepper, and other spices to taste.
- Don't overcrowd the pan: When browning the ground beef, make sure to give it enough space so that it can brown evenly.
- Use a heavy-duty baking dish: This will help to prevent the gratin from burning.
- Bake the gratin until it is bubbly and golden brown: This usually takes about 30 minutes.
- Let the gratin rest for a few minutes before serving: This will help it to set and make it easier to slice.
Conclusion:
Potato and ground beef gratin is a delicious and comforting dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple tips, you can make a gratin that is sure to impress your family and friends.
