Hearty, filling and man-pleasing describes this stew. Link sausage, cumin, chilies, and chili powder is what gives this soup its Southwest flavor. This dish is quick, easy, and tastes best when it simmers in a slow cooker or even on the stove all day. Bake some Mexican cornbread, toss a simple green salad, and you have a great meal.

RANCH STEW AKA COWBOY STEW

Ranch Stew Aka Cowboy Stew image

This is one of my family favorites that I have made for years. It is super easy to throw together and contains ingredients that I always have on hand. When I make this I have to double the recipe because it tastes even better the next day! Ranch Style beans are a western style pinto bean made with a flavorful sauce. They add a lot of the flavor to this recipe so try not to substitute them if possible.

COWBOY STEW

I made up this dish back in the early 1970s when I was down to very little food in the house. Since it's combination of barbecue sauce, hamburger, hot dogs and beans, this one-skillet meal makes both children and adults happy.

COWBOY STEW

This is delicious and very easy to make! I like making this because it's tasty and it makes plenty of leftovers for later in the week. And it's even better heated up a day or two later! Serve with homemade cornbread! Found this recipe in the Texas Country Reported Cookbook, which is one of my favorites! I'm not real sure about the cooking time, but I think it takes about an hour!

Time 1h20m

Yield 8-10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 tablespoon butter or 1 tablespoon margarine
1 lb ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1/4 cup chopped celery
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
2 garlic cloves, pressed
1/2 teaspoon sugar
3 -4 carrots, sliced
1 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 (16 ounce) can whole kernel corn
1 (32 ounce) can ranch style beans
6 medium potatoes, peeled and diced

pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Brown meat in butter.
  • Transfer to a large stockpot and add remaining ingredients.
  • Cook until potatoes and carrots are done.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef. Chuck roast, stew meat, and short ribs are all good options for ranch stew. These cuts are tough, but they become tender when cooked slowly in liquid.
  • Brown the beef before stewing it. This will help to develop flavor and prevent the meat from becoming dry.
  • Use a variety of vegetables in your stew. Potatoes, carrots, celery, and onions are all classic choices, but you can also add other vegetables, such as green beans, corn, or zucchini.
  • Season the stew well. Salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powder are all good choices. You can also add other herbs and spices, such as cumin, chili powder, or oregano.
  • Simmer the stew for at least 1 hour. This will allow the flavors to meld and the meat to become tender.
  • Serve the stew with a side of bread or rice. This will help to soak up the delicious broth.

Conclusion:

Ranch stew is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a cold night. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. With a few simple tips, you can make a delicious ranch stew that your family and friends will love.
