RICH & CREAMY TUNA CASSEROLE

Rich & Creamy Tuna Casserole image

This is one of our favorite casseroles! It's creamy and so easy to make, and it tastes so rich. For the picture, I used small bow tie pasta, and Ritz crackers to top the casserole.

Provided by Lauren Conforti @Hutt5asl

Categories     Fish

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 pound(s) penne pasta, or pasta of choice
1 can(s) solid white tuna in water, including liquid
1 can(s) light tuna in oil, drained
2 can(s) cream of mushroom soup
1/4 can(s) evaporated milk, (use soup can)
2-3 tablespoon(s) sour cream
1 can(s) mushroom slices, partially drained
2 stalk(s) celery, chopped
1/2 small onion, chopped
1 tablespoon(s) parsley flakes
1 cup(s) cheddar cheese, shredded
- italian seasoned bread crumbs, or 1 sleeve of ritz crackers, crumbled

Steps:

  • Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain. Preheat oven to 350. Spray 9x13 pan with cooking spray.
  • Saute onions & celery in a little butter until softened.
  • In a large bowl, combine the tuna, and the remainder of ingredients, except bread crumbs/crackers.
  • Combine pasta with tuna/soup mixture. Spoon into 9x13 pan and top with bread crumbs or Ritz crackers.
  • Bake for about 30 mins, or until casserole is bubbly and golden browned. Enjoy.
  • ** If Freezing: Leave off the bread crumbs until ready to bake.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality tuna. The better the tuna, the better the casserole will taste. Look for tuna that is packed in water or olive oil, and avoid tuna that is packed in brine.
  • Drain the tuna well. Before adding the tuna to the casserole, be sure to drain it well. This will help to prevent the casserole from becoming watery.
  • Use a variety of vegetables. The vegetables in the casserole add flavor, texture, and nutrients. Feel free to experiment with different vegetables, such as peas, carrots, celery, and onions.
  • Don't overcook the casserole. The casserole is done when the tuna is heated through and the vegetables are tender. Overcooking the casserole will make the tuna tough and the vegetables mushy.
  • Serve the casserole hot. The casserole is best served hot, right out of the oven. You can garnish the casserole with fresh parsley or chives.

Conclusion:

Tuna casserole is a classic dish that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. It is a great way to use up leftover tuna, and it is also a budget-friendly meal. With a few simple tips, you can make a tuna casserole that is rich, creamy, and delicious. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy meal, give tuna casserole a try.
