Tips:

  • Choose the right ingredients: Use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the best flavor. Look for a fully cooked ham that is not too salty, and use young, tender cabbage.
  • Slice the ham and cabbage thinly: This will help them cook evenly. If the ham is too thick, it may not cook through, and if the cabbage is too thick, it may be tough.
  • Layer the ingredients in a casserole dish: Start with a layer of ham, then add a layer of cabbage, and repeat. Season each layer with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Pour a mixture of milk and chicken broth over the ingredients: This will help to keep them moist and flavorful. You can also add a splash of white wine or beer for extra flavor.
  • Bake the casserole in a preheated oven: Bake the casserole at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 minutes, or until the ham and cabbage are heated through.
  • Serve immediately: Scalloped ham and cabbage is best served hot, with a side of mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
