Tips:

  • Choose the best zucchini and yellow squash: Look for firm, unblemished vegetables with smooth, deep-colored skin. Avoid any that are bruised or have soft spots.
  • Slice your vegetables evenly: This will help them cook evenly. A mandoline slicer can make quick work of this task.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: If you're using a large pan, work in batches to avoid overcrowding. This will help the vegetables cook evenly and prevent them from steaming.
  • Use a flavorful cheese: Gruyère, Parmesan, or cheddar are all good choices. You can also use a combination of cheeses.
  • Season your dish well: Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are all essential seasonings for scalloped zucchini and yellow squash. You can also add other herbs and spices to taste.
  • Bake until golden brown: The casserole is done when the top is golden brown and bubbly. This usually takes about 30 minutes.

Conclusion:

Scalloped zucchini and yellow squash is a classic summer dish that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. It's a great way to use up fresh vegetables from your garden or local farmer's market. With its creamy sauce, tender vegetables, and cheesy topping, this casserole is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
