SLOW COOKED PORK RIBS

SLOW COOKED PORK RIBS image

Categories     Soup/Stew     Pork     Bake     Kid-Friendly     Quick & Easy     Wheat/Gluten-Free     Dinner     Lunch     Potluck

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 2

Ingredients
2 racks baby back ribs ( our favorite are baby back ribs, but this works well with St. Louis style ribs too) 1 cup barbecue sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Season your ribs with marinade, your favorite rib rub, grill seasoning, or simply salt and pepper. Place ribs, meat side down, in baking dishes. Cover the baking dishes with aluminum foil and place in the oven. If you are using small baby back ribs, take out after 4.25 hours. If you are using regular baby back or St. Louis style ribs, then take out after 5.25 hours. Drain off the drippings. Flip the ribs over using two spatulas (and an extra set of hands if you have them) so the meat side is up. Be careful, as they may be so tender they fall apart. Put a layer of BBQ sauce on the ribs and return to the oven uncovered for an additional 20-30 minutes or toss on the grill. Remove from oven and serve them up with a side of potato salad and some baked beans.

Time 4h25m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 14

8 meaty pork loin spareribs
1 tablespoon light olive oil
1 (14 ounce) can beef broth
½ cup ketchup
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ cup lemon juice
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon seafood seasoning (such as Old Bay®)
¼ cup dried minced onion
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
salt and black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Place the ribs into a large pot, and cover with lightly salted water. Bring the ribs to a boil, and boil for 45 minutes. Drain off the water and set the ribs aside.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large, heavy pot or Dutch oven over medium heat until the oil shimmers, and brown the ribs on all sides, about 10 minutes per side. Remove the ribs, and pour in the beef broth, ketchup, brown sugar, lemon juice, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, red pepper flakes, seafood seasoning, dried onion, nutmeg, and salt and pepper. Stir the ingredients until the sauce has dissolved any brown bits of flavor from the bottom of the pan. Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium-low heat, and transfer the ribs back into the sauce.
  • Coat the ribs with sauce, cover the pan, and simmer over low heat until the meat is very tender and falls off the bones, about 3 hours.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ribs: Baby back ribs are the most popular choice for slow-cooked ribs, as they are meaty and tender. Spare ribs are also a good option, but they are slightly tougher. Country-style ribs are the least tender, but they have a lot of flavor.
  • Trim the ribs: Remove any excess fat or membrane from the ribs. This will help the ribs cook evenly and prevent them from becoming tough.
  • Season the ribs: Rub the ribs with a mixture of spices and herbs. This will help to enhance the flavor of the ribs.
  • Slow-cook the ribs: The best way to cook ribs is to slow-cook them. This will allow the ribs to cook evenly and become fall-off-the-bone tender.
  • Use a variety of cooking methods: You can slow-cook ribs in a variety of ways, including in a slow cooker, oven, or smoker. Each method will give the ribs a slightly different flavor and texture.
  • Don't overcook the ribs: Ribs are best when they are cooked until they are fall-off-the-bone tender, but not overcooked. Overcooked ribs will be tough and dry.
  • Let the ribs rest before serving: Once the ribs are cooked, let them rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the ribs, making them even more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Slow-cooked ribs are a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. By following these tips, you can make sure that your ribs turn out perfect every time. So next time you're looking for a delicious and satisfying meal, give slow-cooked ribs a try!
