SLOW COOKER SWISS STEAK

Slow Cooker Swiss Steak image

I threw this together in my crock pot one day and we loved it! A little time consuming because I sauteed the vegetables and browned the meat first, but it's well worth it. Browning the meat first gives it a better flavor. This is great with mashed potatoes!

Tips:

  • Before searing the meat, pat it dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. This will help the meat brown more evenly and develop a nice crust.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven for searing the meat. This will help prevent the meat from sticking and burning.
  • Don't overcrowd the pot when searing the meat. If necessary, sear the meat in batches.
  • Make sure the onions are softened before adding the other ingredients to the pot. This will help develop the flavor of the sauce.
  • Use a good quality Swiss cheese for the sauce. This will make a big difference in the flavor of the dish.
  • Serve the smothered Swiss steak with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
