HOT SPICED APPLE CIDER
I live in South Texas and as a rule, it doesn't get too cold here, except on those occasions we get a freeze... That is when this recipe tastes the best! If it isn't REALLY COLD outdoors, it just doesn't taste as good or satisfying! Some of you folks up north would love this!

Steps:
- 1. Must have a large cooking pot with a tight fitting lid. This will cook on the stove. Empty a one gallon jug of real apple cider into the pot. Turn on the heat to medium-hi heat.
- 2. Put spices into the pot, as well as the cinnamon sticks and stir well. Stir in the sugar. Cover and simmer for about 20 minutes, then reduce heat to low and simmer another 40-45 minutes, more or less... Remove the cover every 10 minutes or so to stir and cover it again.
- 3. During this time, the smells will waft through the house and bring the Holidays with it! Strain out the spices and cinnamon sticks, stir and keep warm on the stove. If it cooks down after a certain amount of time, it may taste too strong, so you may add some more apple cider to it. This is a wonderful drink to serve at your holiday parties and kids love it! I do know this will warm you like no other hot drink I know of! Bon apetit' Y'all!
Tips:
- Use fresh apples. Fresh apples have a brighter flavor and more nutrients than apples that have been stored for a long time.
- Choose a variety of apples. Different varieties of apples have different flavors and textures, so using a mix of apples will give your cider a more complex flavor.
- Peel the apples. Peeling the apples will remove the waxy coating that can make the cider cloudy.
- Core the apples. Coring the apples will remove the seeds, which can make the cider bitter.
- Use a slow cooker. A slow cooker is the best way to make apple cider because it allows the flavors to develop slowly and evenly.
- Add spices. Spices like cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg are classic additions to apple cider. You can also add other spices like ginger, allspice, or cardamom.
- Sweeten to taste. Apple cider can be sweetened with sugar, honey, or maple syrup. Add sweetener to taste, keeping in mind that the cider will become sweeter as it cools.
- Serve warm or cold. Apple cider can be served warm or cold. Warm apple cider is perfect for a cold day, while cold apple cider is refreshing on a hot day.
Conclusion:
Apple cider is a delicious and versatile drink that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a great source of vitamins and minerals, and it can also help to boost your immune system. Making apple cider at home is easy and fun, and it is a great way to use up fresh apples. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make a delicious batch of apple cider that your family and friends will love.
