Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 recipe - 2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 can (12 fluid ounce) beer
1/2 cup (for frying) oil
1 recipe - 5 green tomatoes, sliced 1/2 inch thick

Steps:

  • In a bowl, mix the flour, black pepper, red pepper, garlic powder, eggs, and beer. The mixture should resemble pancake batter.
  • Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Dip tomato slices in the batter to coat, then fry in the skillet 5 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
  • Eat while hot.

Tips:

  • Choose firm, ripe green tomatoes for frying. Unripe tomatoes will be too sour, and overripe tomatoes will be too soft.
  • Slice the tomatoes 1/2-inch thick. Thicker slices will take longer to cook and may not get crispy.
  • Coat the tomatoes in a mixture of flour, cornmeal, and spices. This will help them to brown and crisp up in the pan.
  • Use a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. This will help to prevent the tomatoes from sticking to the pan.
  • Cook the tomatoes for 3-4 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve the tomatoes hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Conclusion:

Spicy fried green tomatoes are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or side dish. They are perfect for summer cookouts and potlucks. With their crispy coating and spicy flavor, they are sure to be a hit with your guests. So next time you have a few green tomatoes on hand, give this recipe a try.
