The hamburger entree came from my mother, who is a real down-to-center country cook. Because it calls for a can of soup, there's no fussing. The filling can also double as a flavorful baked potato topping.-Leann Jasper, Newmarket, Ontario

Provided by Katie Lee Biegel

Categories     main-dish

Time 30m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon granulated garlic or garlic powder
Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper
1 yellow onion, diced
1/2 green bell pepper, roughly diced
1/2 red bell pepper, roughly diced
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup beef stock
5 ounces provolone cheese (7 to 8 slices)
4 to 6 potato hamburger buns, buttered and toasted
Pickled banana peppers, for serving
Sweet potato fries, for serving

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a large skillet with a lid over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and break it up with the back of a wooden spoon. Sprinkle the Worcestershire, granulated garlic, 1/2 teaspoon salt and some pepper over the beef. Cook, stirring and breaking the beef up frequently, until it is no longer pink and develops a deep brown crust, about 6 minutes. Add the onion and bell peppers. Add the butter and cook, stirring frequently, until the onions and peppers are softened and browning on the edges, about 5 minutes. There should also be browning forming on the bottom of the skillet. Pour the stock into the skillet, a little at a time, scraping up any browned bits. Bring everything to a simmer, reduce the heat to medium, cover and cook until the sauce reduces and thickens slightly, 6 to 8 minutes.
  • Turn off the heat and lay the cheese slices directly onto the beef mixture in a single layer. Cover and let the cheese melt completely, about 1 minute. Stir the cheese to slightly incorporate. Scoop the meat and cheese onto the buns and top with banana peppers. Serve with fries.

BURGER BARBECUE AKA SLOPPY JOES

Burger Barbecue Aka Sloppy Joes image

This is a great sloppy joe recipe. I believe my grandmother gave the recipe to my mother and of course, I now make it. So much better than anything that comes out of a can and really easy--depending on chopping skills, prep time could be more or less

Provided by ncshagger

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 45m

Yield 4-5 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 lb ground beef
1 tablespoon oil
1 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped celery
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 dash black pepper
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1/4 cup catsup
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef in oil with onion, celery and green pepper.
  • Add remaining ingredients.
  • Simmer on low for about 30 minutes.
  • Serve in hamburger buns.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ground beef: For the best flavor, use a blend of 80% lean and 20% fat ground beef.
  • Season the beef liberally: Don't be shy with the seasonings! A good blend of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika will give your burgers great flavor.
  • Cook the burgers over medium heat: This will help to prevent them from drying out.
  • Don't overcook the burgers: Cook them until they are just cooked through, or they will become dry and tough.
  • Use a good quality bun: A sturdy bun will help to hold up to all of the delicious toppings.
  • Don't skimp on the toppings: The toppings are what really make a burger special. Be generous with your favorite toppings, such as cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and onion.
  • Serve the burgers hot: Burgers are best served hot off the grill. Enjoy them with your favorite sides, such as fries, onion rings, or a salad.

Conclusion:

The recipes in this article are a great way to make delicious and satisfying burgers at home. With a few simple tips, you can create burgers that are just as good as, if not better than, the ones you get at a restaurant. So fire up your grill and get started!
