Provided by smaier

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 c. chopped onions
3 T. butter or olive oil
1 can beef broth
32 oz jar button whole mushrooms, or fresh mushrooms
1/3 cup red wine

Steps:

  • Saute onions in butter or olive oil until translucent. Add beef broth and onions ito a saucepan. Simmer on low about 15 minutes. Add mushrooms with juice from jar and wine. Simmer additional 15 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right mushrooms. Cremini, portobello, and shiitake mushrooms are all good choices for steakhouse mushrooms. They should be firm and free of bruises or discoloration.
  • Clean the mushrooms properly. Use a soft brush or a damp cloth to clean the mushrooms. Do not rinse them under water, as this can make them waterlogged.
  • Slice the mushrooms evenly. This will help them cook evenly. If the mushrooms are too thick, they will take longer to cook and may not get as tender.
  • Use a hot skillet. This will help to sear the mushrooms and prevent them from releasing too much liquid.
  • Don't overcrowd the skillet. If you overcrowd the skillet, the mushrooms will steam instead of sear.
  • Season the mushrooms well. Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are all good choices. You can also add other seasonings to taste, such as thyme, rosemary, or paprika.
  • Cook the mushrooms until they are tender. This will usually take about 5-7 minutes, depending on the type of mushrooms you are using.
  • Serve the mushrooms immediately. They are best enjoyed hot out of the skillet.

Conclusion:

Steakhouse mushrooms are a delicious and versatile side dish that can be enjoyed with a variety of meals. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. With a little practice, you can make steakhouse mushrooms that are just as good as the ones you get at your favorite restaurant.
