Time 1h

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

One 28- to 32-ounce bag frozen crinkle cut french fries
1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more for seasoning
3 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, grated on a rasp
3 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 pound ground beef (80 percent meat/20 percent fat)
Freshly ground black pepper
2 cups marinara sauce (pick one with personality!)
One 15-ounce jar nacho cheese sauce (mild, medium, spicy-your choice)
3 scallions, sliced on the bias
1/4 cup sliced pickled jalapenos

Steps:

  • Line a sheet tray with aluminum foil. Arrange the fries on the sheet tray in a single layer. Bake according to the package instructions. Season with salt.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large cast-iron pan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic, chili powder and cumin and cook until the spices are fragrant, 1 to 2 minutes. Add the beef, salt and a few grinds of black pepper and cook, breaking the beef into bits while browning, until fully cooked, 8 to 10 minutes. Add the marinara sauce and stir to coat. Let cook for 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  • Heat the nacho cheese sauce according to the package instructions. Top the fries with the chili and nacho cheese sauce, then garnish with the scallions and pickled jalapenos.

Time 1h25m

Yield 10 to 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

16 ounces whipped cream cheese
1/4 cup granulated sugar
One .14-ounce packet unsweetened cherry-flavored soft drink mix
Two 8-ounce tubs whipped topping
Two 14.5-ounce cans red tart cherries in water, drained, cherry water reserved, cherries chopped
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
16 creme-filled chocolate cake treats, such as Suzie Q's
1 cup toasted sliced almonds
Cherry ice cream or sorbet, for serving

Steps:

  • For the whipped layer: In a stand mixer or with an electric hand mixer, blend the cream cheese, sugar and soft drink mix powder until smooth. Scrape down the insides of the bowl intermittently to fully mix. Add the whipped topping and mix until one color, scraping down the sides to incorporate. Gently fold in the chopped cherries.
  • For the cake layer: Add the reserved cherry water and almond extract to a spray bottle and shake to combine (see Cook's Note).
  • Layer the bottom of a trifle dish with one layer of the chocolate cake treats. Spray the cake layer with a few nice spritzes of the cherry water mixture; this shouldn't make them dripping wet--just moist with a light saturation (think about how you use cooking spray). Top the cake layer with half of the whipped layer, then repeat with another cake layer, cherry water spritz and whipped layer. Top with the almonds.
  • Refrigerate at least 1 hour. Serve with ice cream or sorbet.

Time 10m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 3

One 28-ounce can baked beans
1 1/2 cups (9 ounces) fresh mango salsa (fresh, like, not jarred)
1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes

Steps:

  • Add the baked beans to a small pot on medium-high heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until it bubbles, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the mango salsa and chili flakes. Serve warm.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, ripe fruit. This will ensure that your clafoutis is bursting with flavor.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing will make the clafoutis tough.
  • Bake the clafoutis until it is just set. Overbaking will make it dry.
  • Serve the clafoutis warm or at room temperature. It is also delicious served cold.
  • Top the clafoutis with powdered sugar, whipped cream, or ice cream. This will add a touch of sweetness and richness.

Conclusion:

Clafoutis is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It is a great way to use up fresh fruit, and it can be easily customized to your liking. With a little practice, you can make a clafoutis that is sure to impress your friends and family.
