BEST TURKEY MEATLOAF

Best Turkey Meatloaf image

After much trial and error trying to make a more healthy meatloaf, I came up with this recipe. It is important to make this on a baking sheet so the liquids can be drained off the meatloaf. Also, do not put the topping on before the meatloaf has cooked for 30 minutes. Turkey creates a lot of juices, so if you put the topping on first it will become watery and runny.

TERRIFIC TURKEY MEATLOAF

A juicy homestyle meatloaf made with lean ground turkey

Categories     Poultry     Other     Other Poultry     Dinner     Poultry Dinner

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 13

16 oz ground turkey, 93% lean
1 cup red peppers, chopped
1/2 medium-sized onion
1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese, grated
2 tsp worcestershire sauce
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp pepper, red or cayenne
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
Dash of salt
1 tbsp low carb, reduced sugar tomato ketchup (optional)
1 large egg
1 tsp black pepper

Steps:

  • You will need a large bowl to mix your ingredients in and a small loaf pan to cook it in. I use the disposable aluminum pans for easy portion control and a quick clean up afterwards.
  • Strat by placing the ground turkey, onions and peppers in the bowl.
  • I add my spices which include paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, a dash of salt and ground black pepper.
  • Add the worcestershire sauce and one egg and work the spices through the meat mixture with your hands or a large spoon or fork. Add your grated parmesan cheese. This adds flavor and removes the excess moisture from your meat. The amount of parmesan you add depends on how moist or dry your meat mixture looks and feels. You should be able to form a patty or loaf without the mixture coming apart. If the the mixture is still too wet add more grated parmesan.
  • Then add the meat to the loaf pan and pat down into a loaf. Place your loaf pan on a baking sheet and place in a 350 degree oven for approximately 35-45 minutes.
  • You will able to tell the meatloaf is done by the color and you will see the clear juices bubbling around the edges of the meatloaf.
  • During the last 5 minutes of cooking you can glaze the top of your meatloaf with the ketchup if desired.

TERRIFIC TURKEY LOAF

Terrific Turkey Loaf image

This recipe is from the Jane Brody Good Food cookbook. This meatloaf is so moist and flavorful and healthy! My family loves it. Serve hot or cold in a sandwich. You can make this ahead and refrigerate it overnight. I mince the mushrooms up really fine so that my kids don't even know they're in there. I serve this with mashed potatoes and any kind of gravy. Be aware that you will need to bake the loaf in a pan of hot water.

Tips for the Best Turkey Meatloaf:

  • Choose high-quality ground turkey: Look for ground turkey that is fresh and has a lean-to-fat ratio of 85/15 or 90/10. This will ensure that your meatloaf is moist and flavorful.
  • Use a variety of seasonings: Don't be afraid to experiment with different herbs and spices to create a unique and flavorful meatloaf. Some popular options include garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, thyme, and oregano.
  • Add some moisture: Ground turkey can be a bit dry, so it's important to add some moisture to your meatloaf mixture. This can be done by adding eggs, bread crumbs, or even grated vegetables.
  • Don't overmix the meatloaf mixture: Overmixing can make the meatloaf tough. Just mix the ingredients until they are well combined.
  • Cook the meatloaf at a moderate temperature: The ideal temperature for cooking turkey meatloaf is 350°F. This will help to prevent the meatloaf from drying out.
  • Let the meatloaf rest before slicing: Once the meatloaf is cooked, let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the meatloaf, making it more flavorful and moist.

Conclusion:

Turkey meatloaf is a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional beef meatloaf. It's easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. With a few simple tips, you can create a turkey meatloaf that is moist, flavorful, and sure to be a hit with your family and friends. So next time you're looking for a healthy and delicious meal, give turkey meatloaf a try. You won't be disappointed!
