BAKED MARYLAND LUMP CRAB CAKES

Baked Maryland Lump Crab Cakes image

Having lived by the Chesapeake Bay on Kent Island, MD nearly my whole life, I was challenged to develop this authentic Maryland style crab cake about a year ago. Many people claim to have the true Maryland crab cake, but this one uses all lump meat with almost no filler added and tastes incredible! Let me know what you think!

Time 10m

Yield 9 patties

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 (6 ounce) cans tuna (drained, but not squeezed dry)
1 package seasoned stuffing mix
2 eggs
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon dill weed (optional)
oil, to fry in

Steps:

  • combine stuffing and seasoning packs (if separate) in a large bowl.
  • using a fork, thoroughly mix/mash together all ingredients (except oil).
  • shape into patties (I use my ice cream scoop and flatten the scoops into patties) fry in a pan of hot oil until golden on each side (about 5 minutes).
  • serve with cocktail, tarter, or dill sauce.
  • or put on a bun and have it your way!

Tips:

  • Fresh is best: When making tuna patties, burgers, or cakes, it's best to use fresh tuna. Fresh tuna has a firmer texture and a milder flavor than canned tuna.
  • Choose the right kind of tuna: There are many different types of tuna available, but not all of them are good for making patties, burgers, or cakes. Albacore tuna is a good choice because it has a mild flavor and a firm texture.
  • Season your tuna well: Tuna is a mild-flavored fish, so it's important to season it well. Some good seasonings for tuna include salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  • Don't overcook your tuna: Tuna is a delicate fish, so it's important not to overcook it. Overcooked tuna will be dry and tough.
  • Serve your tuna patties, burgers, or cakes with your favorite sides: Tuna patties, burgers, and cakes can be served with a variety of sides, such as mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.

Conclusion:

Tuna patties, burgers, and cakes are a delicious and versatile way to enjoy tuna. They can be made with fresh or canned tuna, and they can be seasoned and cooked in a variety of ways. Whether you're looking for a quick and easy weeknight meal or a special occasion dish, tuna patties, burgers, or cakes are a great option.
