TUNA STUFFED TOMATOES

Tuna Stuffed Tomatoes image

I am gathering all of my recipies that my children love and want and this is one of them. I hope that others will enjoy what has been made in my house and enjoy it as we have and are, in your house! Always, with love ~

Provided by Tammy T

Categories     Tuna Salads

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 medium size tomatoes
1/2 c celery, chopped
1/4 c sliced green onion
1 Tbsp lemon juice, fresh
1/4 tsp salt
1 can tuna, drained well and flaked
1/3 c mayonnaise
2 hard boiled eggs, chopped

Steps:

  • 1. Cut tops off of tomatoes and dig insides and scoop out seeds and some of the tomato meat. ( need to make room for the stuffing ) Don't take too much though as you still want some of that fresh tomato as your main base.
  • 2. Combine the next four ingredients and add a dash of pepper. Stir in the tuna and mayonaise and eggs. Cover and chill a couple of hours. Fill the tuna cups with the mixture and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, firm tomatoes: Look for tomatoes that are evenly colored and free of bruises or blemishes. The tomatoes should be slightly soft to the touch but not mushy.
  • Use high-quality tuna: Opt for tuna that is packed in olive oil or water, as these varieties are typically of better quality than those packed in brine.
  • Drain and flake the tuna: Before adding the tuna to the stuffing, be sure to drain it well and flake it into small pieces.
  • Add plenty of flavorings: Don't be afraid to experiment with different flavorings when making the stuffing. Some popular options include herbs (such as basil, oregano, or thyme), spices (such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika), and cheeses (such as Parmesan or cheddar).
  • Cook the stuffing until it is heated through: Be sure to cook the stuffing until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius). This will ensure that the stuffing is safe to eat.

Conclusion:

Tuna stuffed tomatoes are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for lunch, dinner, or as a snack. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a satisfying and nutritious meal that the whole family will enjoy.
